Although the drive for a new electric-powered industry and the introduction of hybrid engines, it is doubtful that diesel will be pushed out of its position as the number one motor power source for some time.
“Once you have to create a lot better fuel system, you end up with a much more potentially powerful engine.” It is undeniably true that engines have benefited from being more fuel-efficient, and they are now showing to be the most cost-effective means of operating a machine.

Perkins, an engine builder for over 90 years, is one company that strongly believes in diesel. Oliver Lythgoe of Perkin’s product idea advertising department described how EU emissions rules have impacted today’s engines in an interview with Building Europe.
“One view is that all of the expenditure has gone towards emissions and hasn’t converted into consumer value,” he added, “but I don’t believe that’s accurate because some of the things you do for emissions produce a lot of customer advantages.”
In several of its engines, Yanmar uses gaseous fuel. The Japanese firm is working on gas-powered industrial engines that use LPG and meet EU Stage V, US EPA Tier 2, and CARB Tier 4 emissions requirements.
This technology is currently being used in two clean-burning and silent industrial engine models – the 4TN88G, with a peak power of 45 kW, and the 4TN98G, with a maximum output of 63 kW – that have been introduced to the company’s portfolio. Yanmar also intends to develop bi-fuel vehicles that can operate on both LPG and gasoline.
Gasoline engines emit relatively little particulate matter and are much quieter than diesel engines. As a result, they are excellent for use indoors and in enclosed locations where environmental considerations are paramount.
Yanmar has over 30 years of expertise working with gas engines, and the firm claims that its patented engine management system optimises air intake to generate even more speed and performance than its diesel engines.
