A turbocharger boosts engine compression by introducing more compressors. Because of the increased air mass, more injected fuel may be burnt. This has two effects: it boosts engine efficiency and increases air mass. This increases torque production. Because the torque production of diesel engines is regulated by a forced flow of the air-fuel combination, they are excellent for turbocharging.

What Is the Function of a Turbocharger?

Turbochargers work in the same way as piston engines do. This not only increases complete combustion, but that also adds horsepower. The optimal fuel combustion process extracts as much energy first from fuel as it flames.

The amount of gasoline that can be spent in the engine defines the engine’s power limit, while the volume of gas used is determined by the amount of air that can be forced into the engine. The limiting element in a typical engine is air—a 14.7-to-1 air-to-fuel ratio is necessary to supply adequate oxygen to properly ignite and burn fuel. Turbochargers increase the amount of oxygen available to an engine, resulting in increased performance.

More energy is recovered from the gasoline, resulting in a larger engine it is less costly to operate and complies with EPA regulations.
