“High power, low fuel efficiency” used to be the standard for turbo engines. Honda’s VTEC TURBO engine is a next-generation engine that is both fuel-efficient and pleasant to drive.

The 1.5L VTEC TURBO retains all of the fuel efficiency advantages of a small engine, and by combining its turbocharger with a straight injection system and continuously variable timing mechanism, it offers a smooth sense of power from low to high RPM, outperforming a 2.4L engine’s torque. Acceleration is exhilarating on all routes, from city streets to highways and steep ascents.

Technologies

Small displacement engines are lighter and more fuel efficient, but they lack speed and performance when compared to bigger engines. The power issue is solved by supercharging using a turbocharger.

The VTEC TURBO from Honda delivers outstanding fuel efficiency and exciting power owing to three essential technologies: Dual VTC for Intake and Exhaust, Direct Fuel Injector with High Tumble Intake Port, and Highly-responsive Turbocharger with Electronic Wastegate.

  1. Injection System

The drawback of the turbo engine was that by introducing high-pressure air into the engine, its pressure and temperature grew, resulting in pounding. The VTEC TURBO use direct injection technology to deliver fuel directly into the cylinders, reducing cylinder heat due to vaporisation heat from the fuel. Fuel can be burned quickly and efficiently thanks to high tumble intake apertures that increase intake airflow and tumble flow maintaining pistons. The cooling effect of intravenous infusion, along with the rapid combustion afforded by high tumble flow, eliminates knocking.

  1. Dual VTC for Intake and Exhaust

Traditional turbo engines were incapable of successfully supercharging at low rpm, resulting in slow engine response. Valve Timing Control regulates the amount of time all types of valves are open at the same time with the VTEC TURBO by adjusting the frequency for intake and exhaust valves to work. This enables effective supercharging even while the engine is running at low rpm.

  1. Electronic Wastegate

“Turbo lag” was a problem with conventional turbo engines. Depressing the accelerator causes acceleration to lag because exhaust energy must ascend to spin the turbines, which increases intake amount. The VTEC TURBO avoids this problem by using a turbocharger with electronic wastegates and small-diameter turbines that work effectively on lower emissions energy. As a consequence, the turbo engine is crisp and sensitive, responding quickly to how the accelerator pedal is tapped.
