As some of you may have seen, we recently released a few drawings of our Turbo Inlet Pipe Kit for the 2016+ Honda Civic 1.5T chassis. Our crew is ready to explain what we’ve been up to, why it’s “taken so long,” and why we’ve kept things secret. Since the outset of our R&D on the 1.5L Turbo Civic chassis, our goal has been to deliver solutions that improve on Honda’s already impressively efficient L15B7. Over the years, one of the components we’ve debated how to improve, produce, and bring to market has been the small and unsightly factory plastic turbocharger inlet pipe. Installing a new the factory inlet pipe improves airflow just before turbocharger, allowing it to operate better. However, this endeavour has presented us with several challenges to tackle.
The design of the factory intake pipe is a very complicated item. Honda’s injection moulded component has a bypass valve (BPV), vacuum, charge air (compressor output), and evap ports. All of these elements, along with the tight routing and unusual profile of the intake pipe, have created an engineering headache for us. Could we use our CAD software to create a desired prototype? True, but the true challenge in manufacturing is turning a concept or design into a functional and cheap reality. Behind the scenes, our design team has been collaborating, incorporating new technologies, techniques, and production methods that we’ve gained along the road to bring to market an aesthetically attractive, economical, and high-performing turbo inlet pipe kit.
We’re currently making small changes to our design before going forward with a prototype piece for testing, but we’re pleased with what we’ve created and want to share our work with the 10th Generation Civic community. Far more information, such as dimensions, comparisons, and material(s), will be made available in the near future. Keep your eyes peeled!
